Beginning Sound Dot Pages for Mixed Review

Dot paint is a favorite among young learners. And if you’re working on letter sounds, you’ll love these NO PREP dot pages for mixed review practice.

Besides the fact that kids get to use dot paint, I love that these pages are a very SIMPLE way to help kids work on the alphabetic principle as well as reviewing lots of beginning letter sounds.

Each page features a review of beginning consonant letter sounds {letter x is not included}. The order is the order we suggest in our struggling reader bonus module of Teaching Every Reading, our premier online course for K-2 teachers.

Two pages are included for these letter sounds:

  • m, s, p, t
  • n, d, r, c
  • f, b, h, g
  • l, k, w, j
  • v, y, q(u), z

Beginning Sound Dot Pages - use dot markers

Help learners name each picture and use dot paint to dot the beginning letter sound. I tried to make it a bit trickier, including other sounds learners will hear in the word. So they really have to pay attention to isolate just the BEGINNING sound.

Beginning Sound Dot Pages - use transparent counters

One of my favorite tips is to use transparent counters. Learners can cover the pages more than once. OR you can have learners work the page with transparent counters WITH YOU first, and then they can work on the same page for independent work with the dot paint.
